The Sky’s The Limits: Saxo Carnival of the Animals
A Whimsical Managerie of Animals
La Sax, a group of talented local saxophonists, proudly presents its upcoming concert Saxo Carnival of the Animals at 3p.m on 7th January 2018 (Sunday) at City Hall Hong Kong. The concert is an exquisitely new collaboration between La Sax, two Hong Kong-born pianists, theatre director Freddy Wong and storyteller Uncle Hung. By melding drama element with dazzling saxophone music, members of La Sax will incarnate themselves in different animals and share a story about freedom with audiences of all ages.
The concert will be performed with lots of extras and fun surprises. With great honor, La Sax invited renowned theatre director Freddy Wong and seasoned storyteller Uncle Hung to deliver the concert in an epic stage story, intriguing audiences to an enchanted fantasy. The concert theme—a story revolving around a group of animals, a man who loses his cat and an old lady, has evoked a childhood memory of Uncle Hung, and he wants his story to encourage audiences to pursue their dreams. “Instead of using spoken languages, we are emboldened by Uncle Hung to dedicate a compelling and inspirational story to audiences via music,” says Jeffrey Chan, the executive director of La Sax. With a unique dimension featuring music performance and storytelling, Chan acknowledged that this concert is going to be a breakthrough for La Sax.
One highlight of the concert will be the performance of two sophisticated local pianists Cherry Tsang and Yvonne Lai. The two pianists and La Sax will come together and showcase Saint-Saëns’ best-known orchestral work The Carnival of the Animals. The programme also includes prevalently symbolic “horse-racing” theme music William Tell Overture, all-time favorite Pink Panther, premiere performance Pepperonicini Stroll composed by Dr. Yau Yuk Fung, Le Api which best demonstrate the assortment of saxophone playing techniques, Jazz repertoire Chicken, Yardbird Suites by Charlie Parker etc. In this delightful carnival, La Sax is going to craft the uplifting and vivid musical depiction of a variety of animals, endeavouring to bring audiences an exotic musical night with magnificent visualization. This is indeed great entertainment for young and old alike.
